SUPER FAST SUPE HAWK
SUPER FAST SUPE HAWKEMO or whoever it appears some guy here in New Orleans claims he used to race super hawks way back when. He claims to have a couple "trophies" / old parts like roller cam heads with roller rockers etc. He also claims he has an early mechanical fuel injection set up for a super hawk. Were there such items back then.... anybody?
Yes.
Harmon and Collins used to sell a cam kit that came with roller rocker arms which we all lusted after. Hilborn (sp?) used to sell a mechanical fuel injection system but I have only seen them on a CB750. I guess they could have been adapted to fit on a twin. Yoshimura sold cams and large valves and lightened cranks. Honda had a Race kit including CR style tank, 4 speed CR or 5 speed trans and a rather mild "race" cam. It would be nice to see pictures of some of that old stuff.
Re: SUPER FAST SUPE HAWKAs Teaser said "Harmon and Collins used to sell a cam kit that came with roller rocker arms which we all lusted after." there were several companies offering race/performance cams and HC did offer magnesium rockers/followers and I have a CL77 engine with that set-up in it.
I've never seen a injection set-up on a CB/CL72/77 but lots of race things were used back in the time these engines were the "Hot Set Up" for competition in many types of racing. .............lm
Cycle World - Oct '63 "Fuel Injected Honda"
Built by James Green & Mike Cosner students at Cal Poly, San Luis, Obispo. Only a 1 page article saying it was a project and the CB72 engie was supplied by Don Evans of American Honda. Cycle World - Oct '65 "Very Hairy Honda" Supercharged CB77 based drag bike built & ridden by Dennis Manning .. doesn't say where he was based. Phil
I personally know somebody that had one fully tricked out that would walk past a z1 on the superslab. 130+ mph.
Six speed and all. That very bike, or one quite similar, sold on ebay about eight years ago and fetched less than 1500. Same guy that I got a hpi 940 norton from that romped all comers at several az dragstrips and the only bike that ever beat it back in the day, was a turbo'd cb750 hondamatic. Pix of all the goodies on hand being withheld until teazer steps up with some requested details about his 305.
