Gordon, your bike is a 65, small hub, steel fork lowers, 8 hole steel front femder. In 66, the CLs went to the larger dual leading shoe brakes, and aluminum fork lowers with 6 hole fender and brace. Also changed was the front seat mount. You scored a great deal on that one, can't wait to see more pics!

Loudmouse - you spotted my error ! I meant to type 1972, not 1962. Even the wonderful HOnda organization could not pull that off-selling a 65 in '62 !

Guys, a technical question and one I think I know the answer to, but to be sure -

Would Honda have painted the frame Black over Red for any reason? I found small traces of Red while removing a broken screw. I took a shop knife and removed more to see how much of the frame was red - the entire thing is Red under the Black.

I can't imagine Honda doing this - will you guys confirm? I was undecided about the frame color, but if you guys confirm it was originally Red - then she'll go back to the same Red color.

Thanks,
Gordon

Honda painted over bare metal. The red underneath may well be the origional, or could have been a repaint as well. I say go with the color of your liking, as there is no serial number / color corallation.

I vote for the red.... there are too many black frames out there.... red is much purtier
