here ya go:

like i said, i got the wheel spinning on the belt first, then applied some pressure (wear gloves!) as it was spinning to sand it down a bit. flipped it and did the other side, then dressed the center rib down a bit to match. i think LM uses a grinding wheel, same thing. my wheel wasnt all "sprocketed", just hard and slightly chipped. looks nice now! i figure i removed less than 1mm of rubber...probably less than .5.

Post by hondauser » Thu Feb 18, 2010 8:05 am

hy folk!!

thanks for this trick

the problem will arise in the future with the lack of parts ---- ! ! !

specially cam chain tensioner and primary chain non standard !!

would it be possible to envisage a Teflon pusher for the cam chain like this one ?

How about dressing the idler wheel in a similar way? Any need?
I've haven't had either come apart before and I'd like to keep it that way

my idler was still in pretty good shape....not nearly as brittle or hard. i dont know how critical the diameter of that idler is....with the tensioner you have some wiggle room their since its position is somewhat variable anyway. i dont see any reason you couldnt do it, but i dont know. those wheels are pretty widely available, 25 bucks or so, i think?

as to the teflon guide, that doesnt seem like a bad way to go...i have heard of people making a new roller from teflon, easy enough to do on a lathe, probly even do that on a wood lathe. heck, you could probably knock one out with some clever drill press work and a sharp chisel.....at some point i think i might try this, or get a pulley from a z1 kaw like bill silver suggests. nice thing about that tensioner wheel is it is just right there, 4 bolts and no major surgery.
