'63 CB77 fork disassembly, help!

Try slide hammering it apart. Put the axle holder in a vice, and compress the fork leg, and pull hard out. It usuall takes a few to several repeats of this method to extract it.

had the same problem recently. put a big screwdriver through bottom of fork leg where the axle would go through, stand on the screwdriver and pogo stick the shit out of if until you pull the fork tube out of the lower. put some cushion underneath the bottom of fork as well.

That's hilarious! I guess I would worry about dislodging the keep ring on the bottom of the piston and then the slider comes out but the piston stays put. But if it worked for you.....thanks

Here's how I got mine pulled out...be sure not to crank vise down too hard on the lower fork tube, it can be bent...I probably should have stuck the axle through to hold lower tube down...my restoration thread goes adventures involved in getting front forks apart at great length...

One of the more common causes is using a screw that is too long to mount the fender to the fork; screw bottoms out and makes a dimple in the tube. The "pogo stick" method may work but then reassemble becomes a problem. Good luck with your project. Karl
