No electrical power at all. CA77

Post by Jethro » Fri Dec 25, 2009 10:01 am

Hi everyone, I'm new to the site but I love it already. I just got '65 ca77 and the guy I picked it up from told me everything was functional last time he had it running, about ten years ago. But when I hook up 12 volts (a low amperage charger) there is no power on any switch setting. In fact the only continuity the battery circuit has is when the switch is in the key off (first) position. I pulled the headlight off and the switch and wiring look new. If anyone has any thoughts, your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Many possibilities. Check the fuse first. Check the continuity of the ground cable, it may have corroded. Try to trace the electrical path from the positive battery lead thru the ignition switch and then to the coil, headlight, horn, etc. Use an ohmmeter if no battery power or a voltmeter if there is some battery output.
