CB72/77 silencer help please!

I'm restoring a CB72 (with CB77 top end) and have been looking for silencers. David Silver no longer stocks reproduction items and doesn't expect to get any more so I'm a bit stuck. I could just buy some generic after market items, but an alternative is to get something made in stainless steel that's at least in the same style as the originals. I've done a sketch by drawing over the top of a photo of a CB77 and scaling to the wheelbase, which can be found at:

However I'd like a bit more confidence that I've got the dimensions right. If anybody has access to originals and is able to post a list of the dimensions I'd be really grateful.

I don't know how accurate your dimensions are and if you are thinking about making your own from stainless. If these are you're intentions more power to you but it will be expensive. A suggestion from me would be to check with Tim at www.classichondarestoration.com, I can't give first hand recommendation but talking to others say he does excellent work. His mufflers are pricey but look to me as close as you can get to the originals. His Phone # (410) 799-3588. Good luck, CliffC

About 8 months ago I was looking for new silencers for my CB77 and in addition to Tim's site mentioned above, I found a manufacturer of stainless ones in Australia. His price was about the same as Tim's (depending on exchange rates), and I believe his quality to be good.

I don't know if CB77's will fit on a CB72. If memory serves, the name of the outfit had "Overlander" in it...some googling might be needed to get the correct address.

In the end I got mine from Tim because I needed the entire exhaust system. I'm pleased with the result, but I'm still waiting on baffles. You can see them installed in the Ugly Betty restoration log.

The CB72 and 77 are the same. If I remember correctly the earlier ones did not use gaskets between the headers and mufflers (silencer). The next series used gaskets and the last series were one piece. CliffC

Wow, they look nice. $795 :-( Do you need different headers or will they fit the repro ones from David Silver - can't see why not but it does say on the site that you'd need the full set.

When he says "sold in sets" on his website, I believe he means left and right sides. You can buy the headers, gaskets and baffles separately. The 795 is just for the set of silencers.

I don't know about fitment to the repro headers from David Silver, but you'd figure it would work.
