Top End Disassembly

Post by nander » Fri Nov 13, 2009 9:47 pm

I need a little help with the removal of the cams and cam sprocket from my CB77.

I lifted the top end off of the motor without having freed the lock nut on the cam sprocket while the chain was still attached.

So, is a block of wood wedged against the teeth of the sprocket my best bet for creating some resistance so I can knock on the nut with a screwdriver? Any better ideas?

Also, just to clarify, since the nut on the cam sprocket has left hand threads I am turning it to the right to loosen it (as the arrow in the photo indicates). Correct?

Thanks,
nander

I did the same thing. All I did was clamped a pair of vise grips on the sprocket sideways. Pad the resting point where the grips rest on the head, then used a flat dull chisel to break the nut loose.

I figured this topic must have been covered at length somewhere. Although I'd searched, I didn't turn up that thread. Thanks Steve.

I've got some vice grips on that cam sprocket now - we'll see what happens when I add some WD40 and wail on it a little harder.

Thanks,
nander
