I've seen plenty of aftermarket wheel rims sold on Ebay out of Asia - often the 'Union Cycle' ones, some of the smaller cub rims claim to be Honda parts (presumably made in Asia).
I'm consdiering some of these rims for both my '59 cub & my 250/305 bikes, has anyone used them & would comment, good or bad? Likewise for their spoke kits? Thinking of giving wheel building a go......
Thanks,
Rob.
Anyone used the following rims?
union cycle rimsHi Womb, I built up two rims for my mate using these. The result was ordinary. The angle of the spoke nipple hole was incorrect in some areas causing the spoke to "bend". Hope this helps.
Regards, Brian from Sunbury.
Hey Rob, I bought a pair last year and, I have to say, I'm very pleased with the quality. OK, they're not DID, and the metal finisher's markings prior to plating are apparent in places but, overall, pretty OK, not 'show'.
Unlike Brian, I've not built mine up yet; but I have made a close visual comparison between them and my OEMs. I intend to start the process soon when time allows. I got mine from TC at vintage_001, complete with chrome spokes which are nice too. He has cad, zinc and can have stainless made to order. I just didn't like the idea of mixing stainless with the alloy hubs, as I live close to the sea and the dissimilar metals would react in a heartbeat!
