Dream front suspension

Post by versuspop » Sun Sep 27, 2009 2:10 pm

Is it possible to repair the front cushion bottom on a ca77? (part # 51420-259-010)? I think the seals are shot. I was thinking I would put new oil in them, but when I got the assembly apart and got down to this part, it looks as though I can not open the cylinder. They are in good shape otherwise, and I don't want to spend 175 at ohiocycle for an entire new assembly.

I was able to unsrew a very similar looking cap off of a steering damper for a CL77. I was lucky to find a tool in my bicycle drawer that fit in those hole. I was able to unscrew it, have it replated, and re-assemble with fresh oil.

what do you mean by replated?

btw, i had come to the same conclusion about a bike tool ( an old euro style gear puller) after talking to bill silver and a cyclist friend who is into vintage euro race bicycles...

so those caps unscrew? I have tried to stick something in the slots on either side of the dampening rod and trun but have had no success. what would happen if i heated up the ends a bit? is it possible to turn them into a pipe bomb?--on accident that is...
