Compression Requirements for a 196 1 CA77

Post by KurtW » Mon Sep 21, 2009 10:57 am

Hello!

I just acquired a 1961 CA77 in running condition.

However, it has only about 80 lbs compression in each cylinder.

Does anyone know what the original compression was for this bike?

And what is the minimum compression needed? It seems to run okay at 80 lbs.

Thanks!

Kurt

Nominal compression spec is 150 to 175psi. I'd be suprised if it runs very well on 80. Anything below 100 is too low if you ask me. Might double check w/ a second guage before you get all wild and crazy. Be a shame to tear it all down and find out you had a bum guage.
