Mystery oil passage on 63 CB77
Mystery oil passage on 63 CB77As I reassemble my engine, after a 30 year hiatus, I was puzzled by what appears to be an oil distribution line. This is on the top of the engine top case. I cannot find it on any oil system flow diagram and wonder if anyone can tell me where it goes?
Here is a description of where it is. The oil from the upper engine case emerges from a hole on the top case in front of, and between, the cylinders. Then it goes up into the cylinder, where it splits and runs up along each of the forward/outer cylinder studs to lubricate the cam bearings, rockers, etc. At the bottom of the right hand forward stud, there is a groove cast in to the upper engine case that ends at a jet which appears to partially restrict oil flow so that a controlled amount runs back down into the engine case. Does this oil go to the outer right crankshaft bearing, or to ...? Is it considered a mortal sin to re use piston pin clips? Just wondering, Larry in Pasadena
pictures of oil path to right crank bearingOK, here is the picture of the oil passage i wondered about. I also added pictures of the frame after i knocked off most of the rust and painted it. Can't wait to get the engine back together and fire her up!
