Steering Damper Disassembly
I just realized that there might be a problem. I have that big dinner plate Altette horn, and depending upon how much the damper sticks out from the engine, it may or may not brush the horn.
I just ordered all the bushings etc from Nick Fetzer at Ohio Cycle. I'll have a look at the Scrambler tree to see if that's where I need to go....hopefully not!
Hello Again -- well it seems that the steering damper will be okay with my Altette horn. As well, all the bushings, castle nuts etc showed up yesterday from Nick at Ohio Cycle, so we're good to go in that regard too. Plus, I'll probably take Davo's advice and either clear coat the polished body, or paint it the same silver as the fenders, side panels, etc.
I just need one more thing to complete the parts list, and that is the stud for the threaded hole on the lower triple tree. SuperHawks have the threaded hole (8mm?), but Scramblers have the stud welded in there. It's threaded at one end, and it's threaded at the other end (plus drilled for the use of a cotter pin with the castle nut), and there's the unthreaded part in the middle where the steering damper sits on the stud. Is it possible for someone to tell me how long that stud is on their Scrambler? We're going to see about either making a stud, or finding a stud for another steering damper that might be close and re-tapping the threads to fit properly. Thanks for your help with this latest move!
