model year
model yearHello fellow Honda lovers. I'm Ron and I'm new to both this forum and vintage Honda ownership. I had several bikes in my youth. I sold my last one in 1972. It was a CA77 Dream. I don't even remember the model year. Yesterday, I purchased the bike I have admired and desired for 42 years. Since I was 19 and driving a Suzuki, the bike I most wanted was a 1967 gray and black 305 Scrambler. Last December I discovered one of my neighbors, who collects and restores older Hondas and Yamahas, had the very bike of my dreams. For the last 6 months, I have researched 305's for sale and as much other info I could find. After convincing myself that my neighbors bike was as good or better condition that most all I found online and his price was in the correct range, I bought it yesterday. It runs great and looks super. I haven't taken any pictures yet but will soon. It appears to be a complete bike, missing only the original tool box items. However, the original owners manual was with the bike. The chrome is all very good condition. The gas tank does not have any dings, only a small amount of paint damage around the filler cap. All lights and indicators work and there are no leaks. I haven't done a compression check but I know how my neighbor takes care of all of his bikes, so I expect the compression is strong. The bike runs very nicely at 65 mph.
After reading a few forum letters, I know there are those of you out there that can tell the model year based on the frame and engine numbers. Well, a little help here, please. Mine is titled as a 1967. The frame # is CL771065940 and the engine # is CL77E1065358.
Re: model yearYa have a 67. ......lm
welcome! my numbers are also off by a few hundred. Id love to know how far off they can be from the factory, to still be assumed original. just curious if i/we have the original motor..... (of course this is an assumption as it could have been replaced with a similarly numbered motor) sorry for the thread jack, i never wanted to make its own thread to ask, and i figured it was realative to your thread. hope to see pics soon!
