hose and wiring questionsHelp..again, please! My engine is together, now I am trying to test for spark so I mounted it back on the bike. My ignition swith is busted and clicks a full 360 so that I do not know where the start position is. Where do the fuel outlets on each side of the gas tank go too? Not the petcock outlet, I am pretty sure that goes to the carb. And there are two outlets on the back of the head that look like vacuum hookups, where do they hook to? and does the white cloth condenser wire plug into a black wire. Does the polarity matter on the solenoid, I think one goes to the batt and one to the starter but not sure which order? I know that is a lot of questions but Thanks for any info. Terry
Re: hose and wiring questionsLittlerock, I can help some. The two nipples on the cylinder headshould be simply connected to each other. I'm perty sure the condenser wire plugs into the green wire (from the coil) and then the wire goes to the points from there. Your right on the solenoid,one side is battery the other is starter,the small yellow/red wire goes to the start button and provides ground when the button is pushed. That completes the circut and the solenoid makes the connection from battery to starter. Hope that is some help for ya. Good luck, Steve Greer
Re: hose and wiring questionsconnect the two nonpetcock outlets together on the gas tank. If you want to be clever, make plugs for them so you can take the tank on and off as you trouble shoot things, then, when you get it all dialed in connect the two. The fuel line between the two allows the fuel in the low side of the non petcock side to be used.<br /><br />I don't remember exactly... It's been a long time since I had a 305 dream, but I think the 'on' position on the ignition switch is about 10 degrees clockwise from the red dot that is off, where the key comes out.<br /><br />Matt

Re: hose and wiring questionsThanks Steve and Matt for letting me know about those connections, as far as spark, I ohmed out the wiring and my points were shorted against the head so once I got the insulators in the correct places the engine fired up, I did not have the throttle spring in and the engine revved way up so I killed it as quick as I could. On the timing, I notice the circular plate the points mount to can be adjusted, as well as the small screw that moves the points! I need to read the manual about those two and see what the difference is. I had to retighten the cylinder side covers as oil leaked out from both, I am afraid to go too tight and strip the threads. This forum and the members sure make quick work of what could be a lot of trouble by answering these questions. I had never heard of a Dream till about 2 months ago when my buddy bought this one and decided he wasn't going to restore it. So far I have thoroughly enjoyed cleaning, and renewing it, just worked on the motor so far. The body and brake system are withing my grasp, just hoping the transmission is okay. I am sure I will have many more questions and I appreciate you folks who take the time to read and reply. If it works out, I will post photos of the end results.
Re: hose and wiring questionsThe timing is easy to do but very important. You use the marks on the stator. The point gap should be .35mm when fully open, at the 'T' mark I think, the points should open at the 'F' mark. The easiest way to check when the points are opening is to pull a plug out and watch for spark. You adjust when the spark occurs by moving the points backing plate.<br /><br />Good Luck.<br />Matt
