Conflicting years for my dads Dream.

Post by WarMace » Fri May 15, 2009 1:00 pm

Hi,

I am trying to help my dad figure out the exact year on his dream so his vanity plates will be accurate.
I read through about twenty threads on the topic while searching through this site and found some conflicting answers.

His Bike:
Frame# CA781025320
Motor# CA77E-1025329

My guess is 64, but that is pretty far from the registration which claims 66. (Edit: his Reg says '67)

My second question, is what is the best book I can buy for my dad to assist him in his many years he will likely preserve his bike.

Below are some of my notes copied out of previous threads to assist anyone who comes here looking for the same info (Their accuracy is unknown):
Ca78 - 103491 = '64
CA78 - 100001 to 108176 = '64 Type1
Ca78-1003917 = "From I've learned on this site is 65' was first year
with 7 digit VIN.I'd go with 65' since yours ends in 3917."
CA78-313669 = 63

Not a 64'..... 7 digit VIN 65 and up.A friend still has his dads 64' CA77 he bought new in 64' and it has 6 #'s.Also, all the 64's I have seen have the wider battery and clutch cable that routes thru the right side cover just like my friends dads bike.Hope that helps.Joe

Thank you. I will have him double check the clutch cable.

So now I am left with a span of years from '65 to '67. =-)

ca78 question

Post by nnk111 » Tue May 26, 2009 6:53 pm

hi joe,

was reading through some threads and it seems as though you are knowledgeable about dating dreams. i've got one, vin: ca78100471 which is without paperwork, that i'm trying to get registered, however the dmv needs more proof/documentation that it is indeed a '64. is there any paper that proves what you mentioned about the years corresponding to the number of digits in the vin? i've consulted honda america on this and they can't even explain the 78 aspect of the vin....

i'd appreciate any insights you might have.

sincerely,
