It is frustrating trying to find 6 volt replacements for most anything on my CA 160 (baby Dream) , from the battery, bulbs coil etc , 12 volt parts seem so much easier to find ,
Has anyone converted a 6 volt system to 12 volt ? is it difficult? expensive? / worth while ? I am not so interested in a perfect restoration as a dependable daily rider ,
I think I read that the existing 6 volt system was not designed to run with the lights on all the time so the battery will discharge quickly I would really like to have a headlight brighter than the 30 watt stock high beam and confidence that it will start easliy and not leave me stranded.
any thoughts ? suggestions? comments? Thanks

I converted a CA 160 from 6Volt to 12 Volt fairly cheapHeres how CL175 stator , regulator $24 , a radio shack rectifier $2.45 coil $26 and a 12 volt battery , what a difference, the starter spins it like a rocket , had to replace the bulbs with 12volt models . easy once all the parts arrived , time to ride!

It would, with double its design voltage! It should survive, but will deplete the battery at twice the rate that a 12V motor would. Good call, though! I used to attend Southampton (Hampshire, UK -- not NY) car auction, where they had 3 x 6V batteries in series, on a trolley, for starting subborn lemons. That worked well ~ 18V spinning 12V starters; really livened up the ignitions systems too.....
