gear shaft problemsgear shaft problemsHi all,
Two days ago I purchased a 1964 CA77 Dream . I'm very pleased with the bike as I was looking for something that could be rebuilt with out it costing to much money & this bike appears to be a very good basics for a cheaper type rebuild.
Anyway , The gear shaft spline has had it !! Can anyone tell me if it pulls out easy or does the Crank casing need to be split ???
I have not bought a manual yet , But I though one of you guys would be able to advise me on it .

I have done the job before many years ago on a RM125.

Also does anyone know if you can tell what colour a Dream was originally by it's frame number or any other means????????
I live in Australia & have not owned a bike for 10 years so I'm very keen to be playing with bikes again.
Thanks Peter
Re: gear shaft problemsPeter,

Welcome to the “Dream World” Great looking bike. Is there any reason you think the bike hasn’t always been black? Black was one of the four colors it was offered in. (blue, white, black, and red) I don’t think there is any way to know the original color except by a inspection of the frame and it’s nooks and crannies!

As to the shifter I’ll leave that to someone who has had to do this. I have only been into two left cases and both times it was to clean up the clutch and replace the shifter seal.

Again, welcome. If I can be of any help or you just want to talk Dreams Email me, my address is on my profile.

Rob
Re: gear shaft problemsNot a tough job but takes you removing several parts.
Remove the foot peg, shift lever, clutch cover, oil filter, (nows a good time to take it apart and clean it) 4 bolts in clutch face, all dics, "C" clip inside clutch, nut on crank shaft. sprockets and clutch housing, and now you can remove and replace the shift shaft and parts. I have good used ones here in the USA and I have shipped parts to Australia before. .....................LM

Re: gear shaft problemsRob, Thanks for the welcome.
No this bike was always black , But there's not a lot of dreams over here & you seldom see a dream that's not black . In fact I can only remember seeing a blue one once. I'm a bit of a stickler when it comes to being original . but I would have loved a coloured dream but I only ever found black ones & most were basket cases. I have noticed that it seems to be the opposite in the states " more red ones than black ones .
/ Peter
Re: gear shaft problemsLM , That's great thanks .
I'll make a couple of calls though the week & see if I can find a new one , But I think that would be a tall order !!
If I have no luck , I would gladly buy a second-hand one off you .
How can I pay you ?? Pay Pal ? If I give you the Engine number will that help in matching the correct shaft ? I would also like a toe & heal gear lever. here's my email address .
fab60s@bigpond.net.au
Thanks for all you help & advice it's been a while since I played bikes & I have no contact for classic bikes . In fact I went to a Honda motorcycle shop to buy a Manual & they had never heard of a Honda dream !!! or a CA77 !! So I left shaking my head .
/Peter
Re: gear shaft problemsPeter
Don’t expect much help out of any Honda dealership. Their computers don’t go back but 15 or 20 years. Here in the States most of the people on the counters aren’t much older then that themselves. Your best bet is to go in with the part number to begin with, do not expect them to find it for you. They can’t. If you have the part number they can find it that way. But if you have the part number most any bike dealership can get the part for you.

I live is a small North Texas town the Honda shop charges me 10% over Suggested retail for my parts but the Suzuki shop sells the same parts at retail. The Honda shop has made it clear they don’t want my business. They tried to fail my Dreams first State Inspection because it didn’t have turn signals. They knew better! What they didn’t know was that I knew better! They can not make you “retro fit” a vehicle! I went through that with my old Ford with only a left tail light.
Anyway good luck we are all here for you.
