CL77 ExhaustCL77 ExhaustI am new to the site and the world of 305's. Have a CL77 I bought in pieces and need an exhaust. I figured out what snuff-or-nots are, but can't tell on what bikes they would have been used. Bought a reprinted parts manual and it doesn't even show snuff-or-nots that I can find. I have seen baffles in exhausts on e-bay, but they are not shown either. Doesn't look like a slide on muffler would fit over snuff-or-nots or the bolt heads for baffles. If I buy a set of pipes off e-bay they will be expensive from my observations. Do I want pipes that have the holes for snuff-or-nots or baffles? Can I use those pipes? Looking to make a good looking rider when through. What exhaust do I need. It appears to be a very early bike.
Thanks guys. Believe it or not I read through all 13 pages of this Forum under this heading before i posted my question. Someone talked about Snuff or Nots being for teenagers. That was long ago for me and I had decided I wouldn't go that way unless I had to for an original part. Thank you for clarifying that I don't.
Davamoto, if I read your post correctly, baffles are for cl72 only and all cl77's take a muffler - either welded or clamped, depending on the VIN number. When I look at the parts manual it shows the welded muffler and the clamp on, but shows the same range of VIN numbers for both parts. I am probably not going to do a full resto, but you know how these things go...... Where would a guy find out whether to clamp or weld?
CL PipesThe 1967 had the welded on muffler on the top pipe while the bottom slipped in. Major differences were the heat shields which I believe (not certain) that the later had the longer shields while the earlier had the shorter. I have some of all and I also think that all might be interchangable for the most part. There is a reproduction early muffler available. Don't know the $$$, but think it's around the $225 plus range. The early rubber bushing is also available. I can get you the web site if needed. Charlie
