Front fork seal orientation?Front fork seal orientation? It's been a while and I am finally reassembling my painted and rechromed parts. Before I rechromed I pulled the seals out of the housing. I'm ready to put new ones in but can't remember the orientation.
Open end up or down? Any tips on gettingg them into the housing? Seems like it's going to be difficult. Thanks, Greg Reassemble front shocksI have the seals reinstalled in my rechromed tube caps but now have three more questions.
What is the best stuff to clean out the tubes before reassembly. I don't want to damage the fresh paint. It seems like rinsing them out now would be a good idea before assembly. There is a beveled ring that is part of the piston assembly ( see picture) Does the beveled edge go up or down. I can't be sure from my picture. There is a retaining clip with a couple of waves in it that, I think, go in the chrome cap. Does it go above or below the seal? I should have documented the disassembly but who knew that it would be apart for a year and a half? Thanks for your help. Greg greg, what picture? The wave shaped ring goes on top of fork seal. The bevel faces down. I usually use brake parts cleaner for lowers, but it will do a number on the paint if you aren't careful! When disassembling parts that I'm not familiar with, I take lots of digital pics, and it's save my butt many times.
