Pistons in White Boxes ?

Post by Phil-UK » Thu Feb 12, 2009 6:28 am

Hi

I'm looking at converting a CB72 to 350cc using CB350 ( 64mm ) pistons and O/S liners and keep
seeing references on Ebay to pistons coming in white boxes rather than the Honda red box.
Can someone explain the significance of this and does it indicate that they differ in quality
from the NOS stuff ?

Also anyone know how deep the crankcases need to be machined when increasing the
holes for the liners ? The CB350 pistons look shorter than the CB72/77 ones.

thanks

Phil

Phil,
The pistons in white boxes are aftermarket, haven't used them myself and would be somewhat wary. Take your parts to your machine shop and let them figure out what needs to be done. My recollection is no change in the crankcases. Do you know Bernard Saunders in Bourton-on-the Water, GL? I'm pretty sure he is familiar with this conversion. --Randall
