1965 CA77 Transmission question1965 CA77 Transmission questionHello All!
Last night I removed the clutch from my bike project and noticed that 1 of the 2 wires that circle the center of the clutch is missing. My questions are, what is the purpose of these wires and will the clutch operate with out one of them? btw the clutch has 5 friction discs that have the aluminum core, they are 3.75 mm thick. I have spent hours reading old posts and was unable to answer these questions. You may notice that this is my first post as well as my first motorcycle project. Thanks Jeff jeffw@liesch.com
Re: 1965 CA77 Transmission questionThe wires helped the disc to not stick together and release a LITTLE BIT BETTER as ya rode the bike. Missing one isn't a big deal. Was it the first or second wire that is missing? Not to worry about the thickness. Just be sure the friction material is all there and not rusted. ...........lm

Thanks for the reply Loud Mouse! That is what I was hopeing to hear. The missing wire is the one you would first come to as you remove the discs and plates one by one from the outside inward. That's kind of a round about way of saying it but I think you will understand. All the friction material is there and no rust on the plates. So back together it will go. Off to NAPA to get some 30W non-detergent oil. Thanks again, I'm sure I will need this forum many times in the near future.
The clutch should be good as you install it.
Have fun Jeff. ............lm

clutch wiresI have heard that they get broken and end in the oil pump. Is it best to just leave them out completely?
