'63 CB77 Rear Brake/Kickstarter Conflict

I have some lever problems I assume are from the bike being dropped. When I bought the bike, you couldn't even use the kickstarter without shoving it right through the rear brake pedal. So last night I removed the brake pedal, heated it up real good with a propane torch, mounted it in my bench vise and eaaaaased it over in several places using a two foot piece of tube steel for a lever. I ended up with a smooth curve that brought the pedal at least out from underneath the kickstarter so there is no conflict now. However I'm still not happy with the arrange because I feel like I'm still slightly jamming my foot under the kickstarter to use the rear brake. I'd appreciate it if y'all could take a look at these photos and offer advice. Is my kickstarter geometry wrong? Has it been bent *out*? Do I have the wrong brake pedal for this bike? (Ed pointed out correctly that it had the wrong air tubes, so maybe there's a theme here.)

Thanks for your reply, Ed...last night I loosened the bolt and turned the brake arrangement clockwise to re-index it one notch further. That's when I realized I had already done this in an attempt to fix the problem. I found that set up this way the the end of the pin that connects the brake lever to the brake cable and brake light switch conflicts with the muffler.

I guess I'm encouraged that I'm not so stupid I can't figure stuff out, I'm just too stupid to remember WHAT I figured out. Come to think of it, that's not real encouraging.

Anyway, could my problem be that I have too much slack in my brake arrangement? In other words, should full rear braking be realized before the pedal needs to be pushed so far down that this muffler conflict would occur? If so, should I be concentrating on the rear wheel/brake or the cable end/brake lever to correct this?

The last pic shows me you have the foot assy one click CCW to far. I'd say at one time you had the assy in the correct location then experienced a alignment of the foot peddle problem.
I recommend you move the assy CW one click and fix from there. ..........lm
