cable lengthsfor what it's worth, my '62 cb77 with factory low bars is mostly disassembled, cables are all in one place, so i measured them.
Throttle: 17" from split to handlebar, 30" overall. Clutch: 39" overall (from end of connector to end of connector) Front brake: 44-1/2" Rear brake: 32-1/2" Tach cable: 20" Speedo cable: 34" I don't know if this helps or confuses the issue since sizes vary from others posted. They fit fine on bike before I pulled them off, didn't notice any excess slack or tightness. Not sure if any have been replaced, some memories fade in old age...if original, then may have stretched some in 20k miles. Most of my cables are in good enuf shape to clean up, lube, and reuse, except for back brake (badly cracked sleeve) and throttle cable which has a couple of broken wires at grip end. These parts seem affordable enuf to replace and not have to worry about old ones failing. I'll no doubt be using forum in future as i go through my restoration, so thought I'd participate here to sortta get my feet wet...thanks, lee webb

All my measurements are just for the jacket (outer cable) lengths. The speedo, tacho & rear brake cables are obviously unaffected by the 'bar type. I got most of my replacements from Sirius Consolidated Inc, Canada, but they couldn't help with the short throttle cable -- I'm still on the lookout for one. So you currently have the standard 24" flat 'bar which is correct for your (and my) model year then? Regards, Steve
oh sorry, never heard of "binning" i thought you meant buying. i had really high bars on, almost like apehangers, they were on the bike when i bought it.

all your measurements actually helped, they are pretty close to what they are telling me so i am going to order them this coming week. here is where i am getting them from http://www.olypen.com/retro/ i have to get the bars and all three cables, my other cables are kinda cracked also but still work so i have to put money on what i actually need right now instead of replacing "cosmetic" damage on parts., I also need levers and the rear mudguard, I have the stays but they said there mudguard works best with their stays, so i may have an extra set factory mudguard stays if anyone is in need.

My ribs ache from laughing at your pic! No offence, but no wonder you're changing out there! Sorry, but I hate that type of handlebar. Seriously though, I have to admit that, although the flat 'bar gives a CB the best look, it ain't the most comfortable of riding positions. I reckon the intermediate height probably affords the best compromise to return looks over comfort. I did have serious hand-numbing from my 444-mile delivery ride (described in these threads somewhere); you do tend to put a fair amount of your body weight on your hands & wrists with the flat 'bar in order to get comfortable with the rest of your body. I don't have the later lip-up seat, as you have, though. I guess it'll end up a matter of personal preference and how much time you intend to spend riding in one hit. I only do short rides now, as I live on an island and everywhere I can go to is an hour, max. My delivery was 13 hours across Spain, stopping only to take refreshments (me and CB) and adjust the chain & check the oil. I think I'd be inclined to take a disc-cutter to those apehangers and mail them to the numpty who fitted them in the first place. But, like I said, personal preference. Maybe it was Peter Fonda or Dennis Hopper.......
yeah, i have no clue what they were thinking. the bike has been sitting since 1974 so the bars kind of matched the paint job, definitely early 70's style. This bike is going to be my play bike, I have a larger bike i ride for trips, and longer rides. I have never had a bike with low bars so thats why i am going with them,,and......they look cool. Maybe when i get older i might have to change to the mid rise bars., and if i decide to ride longer, but like i said this is definitely going to be my pleasure bike, if i get tired of riding i will pull over and rest and take in the views! by the way i am going back to the black and silver paint scheme. Mate, to my knowledge there are no stays on the rear mudguard. I'll be moving my mudguards on pretty soon, as I have new ones for front & rear. My front has holes where the blade-type front number plate once lived, and the extra hole in the rear one for the European number plate support. Both in quite good order, though, although in need of stripping & painting.
