The original shocks on my CL77 are squeaky and they don't feel like they're damping at all, so I know I gotta pull them apart eventually.

Do we just use fork oil in these things?

What year is your bike? Can you show a pic of the top from the top? The later shocks can't be taken apart to get to the seal. If they don't show signs of leaking and being low/out on/of fluid no reason to take them apart except to get new chrome on the body and spring tension part. ........lm

LM,

My CL is frame # CL77-1016892, Engine # CL77E-1017719, and I originally assumed it was a '65, but after what I've read from you and others, I'm guessing its a '66 with maybe a non-original engine. I still don't have the Silver books yet.

Best picture I have right now... Enough to go on regarding shocks?

A rather clean repaint. Your engine number is correct for this bike. Chances are good the shocks are to new to be able to take the seal out. It is what most consider to be an early 1966 issue cause there is no actual data after 1965. ...........lm

Thanks LM, as always.

I'm taking it apart, slowly. The main project is getting the family '71 Mini Trail running, with new/used tranny gears. My bench is COVERED with used CT70 parts right now...

On my CL, it looks like a previous owner repainted and did a good job on prep, but still only used rattle cans for paint. The frame paint comes off with your fingernail, and any spilled gas wrinkles the tank paint. I'm stripping parts off the frame, and the shocks are the next to come off.

You have found paint similar to many others who have acquired these bikes. Actually the rear shocks were not much when hew and I learned to lift my bottom off the seat when I saw a bump/hole and they worked (still do today) OK if ya paid attention to what's ahead. ..............lm
