H4 headlight conversion lower wattage bulbs

Post by onchiman » Thu Jul 24, 2008 2:02 pm

I've been reading the archives a lot lately and learned that some are very resourcefully modifying the old sealed beam headlights on the CA77 Dreams by carefully removing the old soldered in bulb then using high-temp RTV sealant to glue an H4 bulb into the housing. The drawback is that the charging system many times can't handle the higher wattage (60/55watt) H4 bulb. After looking around a bit I found this H4 bulb from a scooter that is 35/35 watt from http://www.scooterworks.com/Bulb_Haloge ... 64C123.cfm
This may be the answer to converting the housing to use a replaceable H4 bulb that won't drain out the battery. I haven't done the modification yet but it might be quite useful. I post it for anyone who want's to try.

I bought this bulb:

But I've not tried the conversion yet. Need to find a spare sealed beam first ;)

Excellent! Much cheaper too (at least before shipping):)
