Manufacturing ChainguardsI'm king of over explaining myself. Can't for the life of me figure out what the point of explaining is. chances are the other party already understands and just disagrees... or if they don't understand... well I'm not likely to change their point of view, am I LM?
anywho. I'll tone it down a notch. '65 CB77
'66 CB450k0 '93 HD FXR i say go ahead a do it if you want , if you can make a few bucks that's great for you , if you fail that's too bad. who knows , maybe in a few years you will expand into other Honda parts...offering us good quality parts at a reasonable price while employing people with a good wage. you could be one of those quality venders
i always thought that was the American way , but it seams now in this country that "profit" is bad and any self reliance and hard work should be discouraged . that's how i retired at 41..but that's not political correct in these times on second thought, just quit your job..go on government assistance....let someone else take care of things
Gun and any one else interested in this thread, I thought of doing the very same thing you are talking about. I bought a slightly beat-up chain guard and took it to a guy that had the resources and equipment to make a copy(s). I can tell you one thing about the chain guards, they sure as hell arn't made by some guy cutting them out of sheet metal ! They are a stamped piece in at least three steps. Unless you have a million dollar, lastest computer controled, gee wizz production press. You'll never get a decent copy. So as you can guess by now I dropped the idea when we looked at tooling, programing, etc.etc. It made the $150.00 ones available now look perty good to me. But I'm only talking about a fairly faithful reproduction, certainly if a "make do" guard is good for now then you should go for it. All of us understand having bills and other prioritys for our wages. Don't let a minor thing like this to get you off track, keep after it! Good Luck, Kustommusic
chainguardI agree as well, if you can make it work, go for it. I'm in the same boat a lot of us are, I'm a 35 year old automobile mechanic trying to raise 2 kids and a wife on a single income. So for me to drop 150 on a repro part is like cutting out groceries for 2 weeks. The problem with a lot of hobbies are rich people decide they need something for status. Therefore running the price up on everything the common person once enjoyed. Look at nascar, or any other sport for that matter. Its a job anymore not a hobbie or dream. Anyways, I try to make anything possible I can for my bikes also, so if you can make the guard, make it!! Looks aren't everything, I'd ride my ole rat superhawk cross country (if I could afford the governments gas)
