While my front wheel is off, I was planning on getting my front drum brake set up properly. I had this apart years ago and all is clean and the shoes are good, however I never liked it much when I pulled the lever and it would continue pulling almost to the the bar well after the brakes were engaged. I think that I may have one of the levers on the wrong spline and as a result one shoe is contacting before the other. It's a little difficult to look inside the drum when it's all assembled to know for sure.
Is there a procedure to ensure that the levers are on the correct location on the brake cam spline and the adjuster rod between them is set up correctly?
CB77 Front brake setup, stopping is a good thing.
there should be small punch marks on the brake arms, and the splines. These line up on both arms. What I do then is raise the front wheel so I can spin it. Tighten up cable barrel at brake hub until brakes drag. I then adjust the rod between arm until it stops dragging. I repeat this process untill the shoes are centered, and then adjust slack into cable. Hope this helps!

davomoto,
Yes indeed there are punch marks to line up, very subtle on the spline ends and overlooked some time ago when I remember having rushed final assembly when I was in my 20's and knew everything. Anyhow, all good now and much better feel thank you. a far cry from good discs, however way better than the drum on my old BMW. Thanks again, Pat
