lead additive in the fuel?

Post by bigscooter » Tue Apr 08, 2008 11:27 am

hi guys! are these valve seats hard enough to run unleaded fuel without burning?
i've been riding the crap out of my CA77 without lead additive. should i be running it, or am i ok?

Big, I use it in mine. I just figured these engines were built before the fuel switch over, so what can it hurt? Though, I still would like to hear the answer to your question from someone. Kustommusic

Guys, I rode my CB77 across Spain, ignorant of the fact that using Super-unleaded 98 without additive may damage valves & seats, for some 350 miles before I spotted some in a filling station. I've been using it since (only another 100 miles so far), my rationale being that it can't hurt and it's not expensive (compared to a top-end rebuild!). The motor runs quite sweet and didn't suffered any noticable loss of power during my 'delivery ride'.

Regards to all,

Steve

I ride my 1963 CB77 here in TEXAS and I use the highest octane gas I can get at the station and don't worry about the lead additive. Engine runs fine and other than points and valve adjustment (required with any of these type engines) I've never had a problem .......................lm
