Rotor Removal Question
Well, a $30 gear puller from Sears and the rotor is off. I may have spent more on tools than on parts for this project.
Here's a related question: The old oil leaks on the right side have soaked the stator windings in oil. It appears that the dirty covers are made of cloth - is that right? If so, what is the best way to clean them? Do you think they would survive a bath in the ultrasonic cleaner with a detergent/water solution? oil soaked statorjust rinse it off with some solvent and blow dry. the oil soak won't bother it. water /soap will likely cause corrosion eventually.

I wash/soak them in parts cleaner every engine I do.
I blow dry then put them in the sun. Never a problem because they are a wound short as built. The only problems I've found (other than damaged windings) is loose windings. With those I tap the end plates inside each winding until it tightens the winding. ..........lm
What thread is the Puller?Hey Loud Mouse -- and others - what is the thread for the alternator rotor puller? Did someone say 15mm? Thanks
Re: What thread is the Puller?I have to admit I don't know the thread pitch because I bought the tool required to remove the rotor years back. ..............lm
