Rings only have a small window of time to make the best seal against the clynder, or the sealing will be less affective. I do a correct static timing of the ignition, adjust the throttle cables so the slides are lifting the same. I other words, make sure when you start that thing that it is going to run decent, don't waste running it until you can do it right. As soon as you run it long enough to get some heat in the engine, get on it hard, wind it pretty far and then let off letting the rings get oil. Do this acouple of times, then shut it off and cool-off. Repeat this a few times, and you will have the best sealing rings. Then dump the oil, it will look silver! change oil offten for best results.
