Stupid question re crankshaft...

Post by rzgkane » Sat Feb 25, 2012 12:24 am

Ok, so I took apart a 305 engine today and have a question. What is the purpose of the second set of toothed gears on the crank right next to the timing chain sprocket?

By chance did you buy any books to show and tell how to take bike apart and/or put together. Silvers books are very good and cover just about everything you will run into. In answer to this question, it drives the oil pump. Cliff

One drives the oil pump and the other drives the timing chain. Rusty

Ahh, yes. Stupid me. This was a salvage motor and the oil pump was missing. I mistook the oil filter chain for the oil pump chain. Thanks for the reply.
