oil change question (ca72)

Post by dreaming » Sun Jul 03, 2011 6:06 am

Changed oil in my baby yesterday, first time, but I couldn't find the oil filter. I thought these had some kind of centrifuge system that needed to be cleaned out about every oil change (1000-2000 miles) My B. Silver book mentions this but for the life of me I can't find it. I actually discovered my starter in the process, so if that needs replaced I way ahead of that. Using non-detergent amsoil.
I LOVE this bike and (though it's not why I have it) get more looks and strangers approaching me and loving the bike than I thought ever possible. I guess they can appreciate the old girls life left and someone willing to pamper her in this second chance. My piers (I'm 30) kind of smirk at the LACK OF SCREAMING, BREAK YOUR NECK AND THE SOUND BARRIER, SPEED AND HORSE POWER, but every other demographic seams to appreciate it. I'm learning as I go on this bike. I'm a beginner, reading up as much as I can, getting the Bill Silver guide, and even borrowing a motorcycle home course to study and understand the gaps in translation. I'm eventually going to completely rebuild her to as pristine as I can afford, doing most work during the winter and riding her along the way. I've had nicer, faster, much more expensive motorcycles in my life, but building this one from the ground up has given me a much closer relationship.

It's under the small round cover on the left side of the engine.

Watch for the small flat washer and make sure it goes back in the right place.
