Does anybody know if you can change the right side oil seal without splitting the case on a C77 engine?
It is bad enough having to pull the rotor, the stator, the starter clutch, and the right side cover but if you have to split the case, mine can wait for next winter!

It can be done, but you need to take precautions to avoid the sharp edges of the case shaving material from the seal. If you slighly chamfer the edge of the case it should help the seal go in easier. G '60 C77 '60 C72 '62 C72 Dream '63 CL72

D; saw your other post about the oil leak. don't be jumping at the crank seal just yet--that one usually does not leak. there are a bunch of oil seals behind the right side cover. the usual suspect is the trans output shaft (which indicates a bad bearing behind it)(case split). the first thing to look at (and the MOST common) is the seal/wear area on the clutch lifter rod. the rod wears a groove and will eat seals. oil will drip out the weep hole in the right cover. if the rod is worn, they are available new, the seals are as well. all this is accessable from behind the right cover. I assume you have a parts diagram showing all these parts
