right side cylinder smokingright side cylinder smokingI'll try this again.
I picked up a 305 Dream 2 years ago that hadn't run for about 20 years. Before I started cosmetic work I stared the engine, it sounded great and plugs looked good. Now after the bike is painted and engine is in bike the right cylinder has started smoking. I never got the bike on the road due to carb and petcock issues but ran it for about 15 to 20 min. running a few minutes at a time before it started smoking. Checked compression and it's 135 lbs. plus in both cyls. Any ideas on where to go from here? right side smokingThanks Gman. What's the best way to unstick them?
Mike
Whatever the reasons you'll have to pull the head and barrel off to investigate. That's all I can think of for now unless you or a previous owner poured oil into the exhausts to preserve them... How badly is it smoking? If not too bad I would be tempted to just ride it a little to see what happens. G

I did put oil in cylinders before starting it for the first time but was thinking it would smoke right away. It didn't start smoking until after it ran for about 15 mins.
It's smoking pretty good but I guess it wouldn't hurt to run it a while to see what happens. Thanks,Mike right side smokingGot the petcock and carb situation somewhat figured out. Ran the bike for another 15 mins. and the pipe quit smoking! Guess it was the oil I used to lube the cylinders before starting gathering in the muffler burning off. Phew!
