Type I CA 77

Post by hondadreamca77 » Mon Nov 26, 2012 4:00 pm

Question: On the type I CA77 motor, when setting valve clearance do you set one cylinder and then rotate crank to set second cylinder? That was the only way to get open clearances while I was adjusting. I was a bit confused as manual shows pistons both fire at same position on crank. (not pistons 180 off)

Thanks

On a type I motor, the right side fires, then the left fires 180-deg later (clockwise from the dynamo side). Turn the crank and watch the rhs valves as the "T" mark on the dynamo passes the arrow. They will either both be still (this is where the valves should be adjusted) or will be on "overlap" where the exhaust is just coming closed and the intake is beginning to open. Once you have that figured out, set the left side at 180-deg clockwise at the "LT" mark.

Most CA77's have type II motors however where the pistons go up and down in unison and fire 360-degrees apart. Same idea though, rotate the crank and as the "T" mark passes the pointer, the rhs piston is at "top dead center" either in overlap or in the fire position.
