CL77 crankshaft problem

Post by CFL » Sun Sep 30, 2012 8:33 am

Hi Gang, I bought a crankshaft on Ebay for my CL77 restoration project. It looked OK, however, after I put it into the motor I could not time the thing. After hours of trying I counted the number of teeth on the crankshaft. Well, guess what? It has 17 teeth on the crankshat sprocket. Spec's call for 16. No wonder I couldn' get timed. Anyone out there know where this 17 tooth crank comes from. I am going to try to return it. However, I think it has been two months and I am going to have problems with the seller. Is it from a Superhawk or Dream or some other motor. Any information will help my case. Many thanks to all of you.

Are you sure? You should count that again. Did you use a stock 94 link chain? It should measure 1.650 to 1.672 across from tooth to tooth. But always 16 teeth. Now if you can't get it timed ?? it could be the center gear was pressed on out of clock ??? but unlikely.
