Add oil to cylinder Modification

Post by CJ » Sat Sep 01, 2012 7:43 pm

Hi Folks:
I am presently rebuilding two 305cc Superhawk motors. When tearing them down, I notice both have wear marks/scuffs on the rear skirt of both pistons.

I recall back in the '60s, (ya, I'm old) there was a "fix' shared among mechanics who raced these bikes, that involved drilling through the engine case, and cylinder wall below the piston ring to allow oil to spray the cylinders.

I have used the search engine here and can't find this mentioned anywhere.

My questions are:

-Has anyone actually done this to an engine of thiers?
-Did it help, or??
-Does anyone have the instructions on how to do it?

Thanks for any info....
CJ

CJ,

That was a Webco 350cc big bore trick that would sometimes just made it smoke.
All you really need to do is make sure your sleeves are tight in the cylinders. Piston to cylinder clearance is at .002 and that your total timing is set correctly.

Tim
