smoke

Post by nazarnaseer » Sun Sep 26, 2010 8:26 pm

hi,
Just picked up 1965 dream 305. Started right up however, some smoke is coming out valve cover thru. a rubber hose. What could be the problem.

Thanks for help.

I would offer a guess that this engine has sat for a while and the rings are sticking in the lands. A compression check may reveal low compression and that would cause some blowby.

And I would try to put some MMO or equivalent in the cylinders and see if it will help before any major overhaul type work is performed.
