Post by waynew » Sat Sep 25, 2010 6:59 am

when changing out my tachometer cable i tried to loosen the 17mm nut where the cable goes into the engine but it seems stuck. does the phillips head screw located nearby the nut have to be loosen? also, when the cable broke the engine is making a wierd noise at the place where the cable goes into the engine. all advice would be appreciated. thanks!

Phillips head need not be loosened. Wird noise is most likely the broken cable whitrling in the housing.

I, too, am having problems loosening the nut where the Tach Cable goes into the engine. Can anyone suggest how to do this? Thanks very much.

Penetrating oil, heat and patience......

Put a bit of heat on there and just try working the nut back and forwards. Try not to squash the nut.

Wondering... does this nut have a standard or reverse thread?
Also... do you think it would be better to remove the Tach Drive Ass'y to attempt removal of the nut?
I am also wondering about the availability of the nut that attaches the Tach Cable to the Tach Drive Ass'y.
Thanks!

Standard thread.
Leave it on the head as it holds the assy for better grip.
The nut you describe is assembled to the cable and should not be removed.
Have you scared or marked up the nut?. ............lm
