Cleaning or painting motor without complete rebuild

Post by Kevmcp » Fri Jun 04, 2010 8:17 pm

I was wondering if anyone has ever re-painted/sandblasted/made-to-look-new their motor by taking it off the bike, but not rebuilding it? It holds pressure and runs great, I just wanted to make it look better!

Thanks!

Kevin, use the search function, it works really well.

Kevin, I use " search for all terms" and it filters out a lot of non related posts.

I cleaned an painted the motor without tearing it down. I took the side covers off and painted them. The bare aluminum parts I just cleaned with engine cleaner, mineral spirits, or what ever worked. I used tooth bushes, q-tips and a lot of rags. I did use a nylon brush in a hand drill for the fins and polished the side covers.

Especially the hyperlink by Davmoto, has anyone else ever tried the baking soda blaster? I know getting alot of water on the enging can mess things up, so hosing it down isnt the best idea...

4shorts bead-blasted and painted his running motor. The link for his thread is http://www.honda305.com/forums/viewtopi ... c&start=10
