timing belt adjuster 61 305 dream Ca77timing belt adjuster 61 305 dream Ca77I have a question for you folks that have worked on the timing chain adjuster. I was trying to loosen the side screw on mine and it seems to be frozen pretty tight. Is that set screw loosened allow the spring to tighten? Is that chain tenioner removable without R&R motor?
Re: timing belt adjuster 61 305 dream Ca77If you are talking about the cam chain adjuster than yes you can remove it by removing the four bolts. You can then check the condition of the roller and if it is frozen un- freeze it. 61 305 dreamI tried to losen the small 6 mm bolt on the outside of the chain adjuster...Afraid I'm going to break it off as it is very tight....The book said to loosen it to adjust the chain. Is it a set screw and the other shaft moves in and out to adjust the chain?
It should have a jam nut that you back off and then back the bolt off and then the rod should move. If you feel it is frozen, you need to remove the adjuster assemble. Very easy job: just remove the four mounting bolts and remove the whole thing. You might need to get a gasket to put back on. I used gasket sealer and it does not leak.
61 305 dreamThanks for the help....I am going to remove it and see if it is working

61 305 dreamThanks for the help....I am going to remove it and see if it is working. This unit hasn't been started in over twenty years and I started it the other day...It had like a loud chain noise at start but it started and ran pretty good considering all I did was clean and gap the points..I also noticed the points plate is moved all the way to one side....could that mean the chain is worn..."stretched"
