Cracked timing tensioner

Post by maysie » Tue Jul 22, 2008 11:42 pm

I was riding my C72 yesterday when rear of the bike jumped to the left like it had run over something on the road. I stopped and noticed a vertical crack in the tensioner mounting plate where the tensioning rod is secured by the bolt. It extends maybe 15mm either side of the rod and only on the raised part of the plate. Has anyone seen this before. I had some engine rattle about a week ago but put that down to the clutch, as it is starting to slip resulting in lots of engine revs and no power when riding a bit hard, I was running a thinner oil at the time and have straight 30 in it now. I am wondering if the clutch grabbed yesterday and thats what I felt when the bike kicked out to the left.

Any ideas on the cause of the crack? I'm hoping its just the age of the part, or is it something more sinister. Could it have resulted in the kick I felt when riding? Why to the left? Is the part interchangeable between the 72 and 77?

Hoping to put in new clutch plates and tensioner and this will be behind me.

Cheers
