66 CA77 - Tops out at 50

Post by young4vr » Tue Jun 17, 2008 3:44 pm

Ok, so I finally got her running and she kick starts great and idles great. I have been driving it around the neighborhood and runs nicely around 25 to 30 miles an hour. So, I finally tried to get some speed under her, and the best I could get was 50, nothing more. Am I missing something?? Any suggestions???

Your brakes aren't dragging hopefully. I had that happen one time.

It should do a bit better than 50. Whats it running like at that speed. Does it act like its working hard or does it seem like it should have more to go. What do have in the carb for jets? Air filter? Mufflers?

I readjusted the needle. I tried to move it to the bottom, but she idled like junk. Thought about moving it back to the middle, but I am getting pretty good at removing the carb, so I adjusted it to the second from the bottom, she idled rough, but I adjusted the carb screw and she started to cooperate. I took her out and hit 65 with a pretty smooth ride. Two years worth of work and about $1000 and I have a nice running machine. Thanks to all that have helped, pictures coming soon.
