Looking for someone to overhaul my engineLooking for someone to overhaul my engineHi folks,
I have finally found the time to restore my CA 77. I've got the engine pulled out and would like to have it rebuilt. It ran before I pulled it out, but....I leaked alot from many seals. It was weak, and would also surged quite a bit. I live in Southern California and am looking for a mechanic with a good rep for rebuilding these engines. Anyone have any recomendations? If not, is the certain things I should know about before taking it to my local mechanic? Also, this is the first dream I am restoring, besides ebay and ohio cycles, is there any other good source of parts out there? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Hi Chunk,
Living in the UK I can't comment on engine builders but as there have been no other comments I'll drop in my piece on the general stuff. Most of it is mentioned elsewhere in the forum but it seems to be generally recommended that you get a copy of Bill Silver's Restoration Guides ( lots of useful stuff for rebuilding especially if the person doing it doesn't know theses engines, and its useful for general maintenance ) which I think you can buy from this site. I got the paper copies when I rebuilt my CB72 about 6 years ago and it was very very useful. People also seem to recommedn Western Honda for parts as well as Ohio Cycle - check out the Product Review Forum for comments. If you can't find what you need from a dealer then try the Wanted section, people seem very helpful if they have a spare whatever. Good luck with the bike and I'm sure you'll enjoy it cheers Phil Overhaul'65 CL77 Owner
Chunk, I'd love to do your engine for you, but I'm in Marin, just north of San Francisco. These guys are in santa barbara, a bit closer anyway, and seem to specialize in the old Hondas. I really don't know anything about them, but may be worth looking into. Ther is a good thread I did on a CB77 engine rebuild in the restoration section. Check it out when you get a minute.
