Busted Starter clutch????

Post by Macgyver5 » Fri May 23, 2008 3:51 am

Hey, can anyone tell if I need to replace this? The rotor is the better early version but the clutch attached to the back doesn't look so good... any thoughts... It's frozen like this... shouldn't it move?

It looks like the thin plate has moved but that usually happens when the sprocket isn't held in place with the steel stopper on the right side. If it doesn't move that's correct. Are all the springs and other parts in there?. ................lm

I don't know if everything is in there I haven't taken it apart... when I put it on there is a good sized gap between the rotor and the starter sprocket... about 3 mm and the rotor doesn't want to go on any more...

How does this thing work?

There should be 3 springs, 3 caps and 3 rollers inside the part you show. That part isn't supposed to touch the starter sprocket. The rollers contact the starter sprocket when the starter motor turns. ...............lm

You have it apart in the pic.
When you look at the middle area you will see 3 locations for those parts. I'd bet they are not there.
Do you have some parts in your work area since you removed the rotor?. ...................lm
