Hi guys,
I'm in the middle of trying to find a replacement engine for my Type 1 CB77. I found a CA77 near complete engine which some parts are usable. My question is: is CA77 (305 engine) the same as CB77 and is CA77 type 1 or Type 2? (I can not find the right side cover so I do not know if this is Type 1 or Type 2)
Please help!
Thanks!
CB77 vs CA77 EngineSure your aware of the one carb. and one set of points only on the CA and the CB/CL has two carbs and two sets of points.Crank shafts are 360 degree on CA vs 180(type 1) 0n the CB/CL.Alot of bottom end parts are the same.Pistons are different, but have seen CB77 pistons in a CA I tore down.I'm not sure about cam shaft etc.I'm sure some of the CB experts will chime in.Hope this helps.
CA77 engine in a CB77 FrameThe engine will fit and work well. You will need the coil from the CA77 too. You will have to change the studs and top cover on the engine for it to fit in the frame. Do not forget to change the engine sprocket as the bikes use different width chains. Now the CA77 was advertised as 23 hp and the CB77 was 28.5 hp. The CA engine will not bog.
