To Replace Seals or Not? And How Difficult? To Replace Seals or Not? And How Difficult?Hi all,
The engine is out, the top end is off. I'm now at the point where I COULD split the case and replace all gaskets and seals, but it's a little intimidating. Yes, I have Silvers books, and the Honda parts book with diagrams, but still, splitting the case is something I've never done before. If I want the bike ('63 CB77) to be a drip-free daily driver I should definitely replace the seals, right? I'm thinking it's a real good idea. I'm curious as to how difficult it is to reassemble the internals once apart. Input appreciated. I'm at about the same point in my "refurbishing" of my 63 CB77. The engine and tranny are in my basement right now awaiting some free time to split the cases. I plan to X the gears and fix the kickstarter while I'm in there. I also plan to replace the seals. I'm interested to hear others' experiences.
Cheers! Splitting Cases and Replacing SealsI _thought_ I'd read on here somewhere that someone had replaced the seals without splitting the cases. Thanks for checking in. What tools did you use to remove the seals?
Now that I've read up on xing the gears, I like the idea. Which takes me back to one of my original questions: how difficult is it to reassemble once apart?
