8K miles..time for a rebuild??

Post by Githianki » Wed Nov 14, 2007 10:00 pm

I just picked up my CA77. Not sure if the spedo is correct in the miles, but its reading 8k and change. I am going to have the engine painted or plated, and I figure while I have it out, I may as well do whatever else may need to be done to it. I am going to order Bills CD and books, but as a heads up..anything I should be looking for once I really get into it?

Its hard to know what shape the engine is in. That is not alot of miles unless it was treated like a rented mule. You probably should do some quick tests, compression, points gap, valve adjustment, etc. if that all looks good then you might try to start it. If its been sitting awhile the clutch discs will need to be replaced. I'm sure there are things I'm not thinking of, hope others will jump in on this with some advice. Good Luck,Kustommusic

The guy I bought it off of had it running a 2 years ago, and it has sat in his garage since. I seems like it has good compression. Haven't had a chance to check the points or anything as of yet, want to wait till I get the manual first before I go and start tearing into things.
