Have had to reopen this posting after yet more oil seal changes I still have oil dripping from the right hand side case, this is a on going thing since I had the bike some 2 years ago and have never go it sorted the leak is not massive it do,s not cover the rear of the bike to any great extent, it is fresh engine oil that drips I would say around 2 to3 table spoons just guessing.
I have changed everything over and over. I belive it is coming from the right crankshaft oil seal 91201-259-000 I have changed it 4 times the size 32 x 65 x 6.5 I used the one in now is a genuine NOS from Taiwan but still I get leaks the running surface on the sprocket and all shafts with no damage and look ok. I also have purchased and fitted the Cappenllini crankcase breather thinking maybe it is crankcase pressure and ran a large bore pipe out to the back. the top breather works ok I have had the engine apart and the plate and gasket are the right way round any way plenty of fumes come out of the breather pipe. Now Bill silver in the Honda restoration lists the seal as 32 x 65 x 7.5 and Ohiocycle lists the CB72 CB77 oil seal as 32 x 65 x 7.5 @ $9.00 as I live in the UK I can not purchase the oil seal from Ohiocycle they will not ship to the UK, I have google it and can not find the oil seal any wear in the world that size 32 x 65 x 7.5. I must add the bike runs just perfect with no other problems at all. Any ideas would be most appreciated Mike
I do not think the width of the seal is causing your problem. I see that you checked for surface damage where the seal runs? What about the crank case where the seal sits? Are you convinced that it is the seal? What about the seal in the starter sprocket? I could let you have a spare sprocket if you like. Can you post a picture of the area? How about taping some blotting paper around the area of the seal? It might help locate the origin of the leak. Have you tried examining the starter sprocket closely to look at any oil coming off between the sprocket and the alternator rotor? Have you replaced the seal in the starter sprocket? G
