Yes that's true, but you need a continuous bead where oil can leak to the outside. Good to remember that we're not sealing 1/8" gaps here either. If the surfaces are free of any protruding nicks, etc, they fit together very closely. The broken english shop manual I have shows "painting" only the lower case half. I've painted only the upper half with good results. Personal preference I guess, but the grooves are in the upper half and you can tell where you're putting the sealer with respect to those passages.

Being stubborn, I still use Permatex #2 Form-A-Gasket, just like in the 60's, for joining the upper and lower cases. Painting the top half will keep you away from the oil passages, and with an even thin coat, no worries about clogging anything. Regards, Chase

I used YAMABOND 4 on the 4 engines I did the last 5 weeks. .............lm
